About Crafting Platforms

Crafting Platforms is a book — and a newsletter — about the art and practice of building platforms that engineers love.

Over the past decade, software delivery has evolved from traditional IT operations to DevOps, and now to Platform Engineering — the discipline that makes DevOps scalable across an organization. Platform Engineering isn’t about replacing DevOps; it’s about enabling it. It’s about designing the paved roads that allow developers to move fast without breaking everything underneath.

Every company has its own DNA, culture, and constraints. There’s no one-size-fits-all platform — each must be crafted with care. The book explores how to design and build these platforms: their building blocks (CI/CD, observability, security, automation, compliance), their principles, and the trade-offs behind every architectural decision.

This newsletter is the companion to that journey. I’ll share the progress of the book, lessons from real-world implementations, and thoughts on the latest trends in Platform Engineering.

If you’re interested in platform craftsmanship, join me. Let’s build better platforms, one layer at a time.
